Taking the step to seek out therapy is both a brave and vulnerable act. I want to honor that and share with you that I am an experienced practitioner providing brief and long-term psychotherapy to individual adults.

I am a respectful and careful listener who utilizes primarily three different schools of thought in my treatment. I have extensive skill and experience with Cognitive Behavioral strategies to help provide immediate relief of depressive or trauma-related symptoms. Doing this allows us the space to work with what is underlying symptoms you may be experiencing.  Additionally, I enjoy working with an Existential or Humanistic approach. This means that you may find me asking questions related to your sense of purpose and meaning in life. I also enjoy using a more traditional depth orientation. I find this to be useful because as much as we all want to be free of our past it is vital that we look to the past to better understand what is happening for us in the present.

Please feel free to ask questions about therapy, treatment goals, and the therapeutic relationship. Initial sessions involve a thorough evaluation and history taking in order to learn about your background, symptoms, and reasons for beginning therapy. If appropriate, referrals to other health or medical professionals will be provided.

 What Does Inner 8 Mean?

I have always been interested in the interplay between Psychology and Philosophy, One Psychoanalyst I respect is James Lacan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Lacan). He wrote about a Möbius strip (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%B6bius_strip) as a model for the ways in which we look at the world. Because a Möbius strip has no beginning and no end it represents the continuity of emotion and knowledge. In my case, I view this as a metaphor for therapy. There is a connection between myself and the client that interplays and brings together all of our past experiences, our current interaction and our futures.

“One should descy therein the crucially important mark of structuralism. It ushers into every “human science” it conquers a very particular mode of the subject for which the only index I have found is topological: the generation sign of the Möbius strip that I call the “inner eight.” ”

During this time of social distancing and sheltering in place, I am seeing vaccinated individuals in person and telehealth continues to be available to all. While in-person I am happy to wear a mask for the duration of the session if you’d like.
